Lakeside is the perfect place to bring the whole family, there is something for every generation. We’ve picked a few (or eight) of our favourites…
The Lake
The jewel in the crown of Highfields Park and Lakeside. The boating lake is perfect for a potter around, with a flat easy path following the length of the lake. There are also plenty of opportunities to explore, with bridges, waterfalls and a few hidden surprises. During the summer months, you can hire a boat and enjoy some time on the water.
Playground
A great space to let off steam, this playground is suitable for all ages. There is a little play area for toddlers that sits next to the full playground. Perfect for little adventures, there is a range of climbing frames – can you get to the top?
For those that like a different challenge, see if you can find the dinosaur bones hidden in the sand.
A playing field surrounds the park, with space for a spot of frisbee or football. Plus, there are lots of shady spots to shelter from the sun (or the rain).
Adventure Golf/Footgolf
If you’re looking for something to keep the whole family entertained, then look no further than Adventure Golf and Foot Golf. In adventure golf, you can work your way around a fun 9-hole course.
In Foot Golf, the aim is to get the football around the golf-style course in as few touches as possible.
Find out more and book tickets on the Highfields Park Adventure Golf website.
Theatre for the whole family
We are specialists in family entertainment, with family theatre and dance shows at the heart of our programme. You’ll also find a wide range of workshops, talks, exhibitions and events aimed at little culture lovers.
Find the stepping stones
Have you found the stepping stones? There is a quiet little corner at the far end of the lake, with a waterfall as a backdrop. Here you’ll be able to make your way across the lake, one stepping stone at a time.
Nature spotting in our parkland
Come and enjoy our beautiful parkland with all kinds of critters to spot. You’ll find a variety of wildlife and plenty of fun places to discover and explore. If you’re a keen birdwatcher, passionate about wildlife or enjoy being by the water, then there is plenty to see and do.
Enjoy an exhibition
With four gallery spaces at Lakeside, you can fill the perfect day out with art and creativity. The Djanogly Gallery and Angear Visitor Centre show fantastic art from around the world (and from right here in Nottingham). The Weston Gallery, with exhibitions from the University’s Manuscripts and Special Collections team, and the University of Nottingham Museum offer a look back over time. Finally, there is the Wallner Gallery, based next to our Pavilion Café, a creative space where you’ll find engaging installations.
Stop off in the café
The perfect day out always involves a cup of tea, a sweet treat or a spot of lunch. We have two cafes, The Pavilion Café with it’s Lakeside views and the aptly named Gallery Café.
Both cafe’s offer plenty of seating, seasonal and kid friendly menus.
