The perfect place for a family day out in Nottinghamshire. Lakeside offers top-notch theatre, dance and much more for children of all ages. We want to make sure your visit is as effortless and enjoyable as possible.
Our buildings and most of our spaces can be accessed without the need for lifts or ramps. Making our buildings easy to access for everyone moving around with wheels.
We have plenty of seating and open spaces for buggies and family groups.
Baby-changing facilities are available in the men’s and accessible toilets at the DH Lawrence Pavilion. There is a dedicated baby changing room in the Djanogly Gallery.
Please feel comfortable to breastfeed at Lakeside.
Our Pavilion Café offers highchairs and a variety of healthy snacks for the whole family. Including sandwiches for children, sweet treats, and fresh fruit.
We’re happy for children to eat a packed lunch in our cafes if their responsible adult purchases food or drink. Please note we are not able to heat food or bottles.
Lakeside has the benefit of being surrounded by wonderful parkland. We’re based at University Park Campus, right next to the always-busy Highfields Park. So there’s lots of room for the little ones to stretch their legs! Highfields Park includes a great Children’s play area, boat hire on the lake as well as adventure and foot golf.
We have a theatre programme that is just for children and families. We aim to bring a wide range of shows, including theatre, comedy and dance, which are suitable for a wide age range of children.
All shows suitable for little ones will give a guide to age suitability. So you can pick which events and performances are right for your family.
We understand that attending the theatre with children is a different experience from attending an adult event. Performers in our family shows will be familiar and experienced with a family audience. So, whether your child wants to get involved with the show, or needs to nip to the toilet, please feel at ease to enjoy the show whilst meeting the needs of your family.
When shows are for a much younger audience we will provide a buggy park, a space in which you can leave a buggy during the show.
For family performances or events, the following applies:
For non-family events:
Children aged 3 and under will receive a free baby/toddler ticket. They need to be on a parent/carer’s lap throughout the event.
If you wish for a child who is eligible for a baby/toddler ticket to have their own seat, please purchase a paid ticket as usual.
To book baby and toddler tickets please order via our box office by calling 0115 846 7777. These tickets cannot be purchased online.
We also have £5 tickets are available for those under 16 years of age, for all non-family performances and events. Please double-check the age suitability before booking.
