We want to make everyone feel welcome at Lakeside Arts and do everything we can to be an accessible arts venue. We are always looking for new ways to do this and welcome any feedback that can help improve your visit.
Accessibility at Lakeside
There is Accessible Parking across all our venues.
For the Djanogly Gallery and Recital Hall please use the spaces outside of these buildings on East Drive.
When visiting the DH Lawrence Pavilion there are six blue badge parking spaces. These are in the oval car park which sits closest to the security gate.
Our buildings and most of our spaces can be accessed without the need for lifts or ramps. Only the Visual Arts Studio requires lift access. There are also level access toilets inside all of our buildings and an accessible toilet outside the building which requires a radar key.
A fully equipped Changing Places room is available at the David Ross Sports Centre. This is 0.9 miles from Lakeside, across the University of Nottingham campus.
Designated wheelchair spaces are available in both the Djanogly Recital Hall and Djanogly Theatre. We ask that these be booked in advance via our box office on 0115 846 7777.
There is a Sennheiser Infrared enhanced hearing system in the Djanogly Theatre, Djanogly Recital Hall, and Performing Arts Studio. Where possible headsets should be booked in advance from our Box Office (0115 846 7777) or ask one of our front-of-house staff on the day. An induction loop in the Box Office and Pavilion Café.
Assistance dogs are welcome in all areas of the building, and if you prefer, we will happily look after your dog while you enjoy a performance. It is helpful if your dog is clearly labelled as an assistance dog. If you would like to bring your assistance dog to a performance please try to let us know in advance of your visit by contacting the box office on 0115 846 7777.
Our Box Office has a low-level counter, and all of the main doors in the building are automatic.
For certain performances, we offer Touch Tours. Touch Tours allow you to familiarise yourself with the set and costumes before the show and sometimes even to meet the performers. Touch tours are free, places are limited so advanced booking is essential. For more information please contact our Box Office on 0115 846 7777 or lakeside-box-office@nottingham.ac.uk.
Some productions will offer BSL and Relaxed performances. BSL interpreted performance are exactly the same as any other but will have a BSL interpreter on or near the stage. For relaxed shows, the house lights will be on, the music will be quieter, and there will be no loud surprises. These performances will be highlighted when you book.
We often put on performances for audiences with PMLD (profound and multiple learning disabilities) as well as work performed by or addressing the needs of those with access needs. These will be advertised as specifically for PMLD audiences.

A free ticket for a personal assistant (PA) is available for any deaf or disabled person who has purchased a ticket to an event and would be unable to attend without the help of their PA.
The PA must be able to assist the deaf or disabled person with access to Lakeside and its facilities. The PA must remain with the deaf or disabled person to ensure their well-being and comfort. Anyone designated as a PA must be able to assist the person they are with to leave Lakeside buildings in an emergency.
These forms of evidence make a person automatically eligible for a free Personal Assistant ticket:
- Front page of DLA (Medium or Higher rate)
- Front page of Attendance Allowance letter (no specific rate required)
- Front page of PIP (no specific rate required)
- Evidence that registered severely sight impaired (blind)
- Recognised Assistance Dog ID card
- CredAbility Access Card (with +1 icon)
We understand that this evidence might not include everyone that has an access requirement. If you are unable to provide us with any of the above, a free PA ticket can still be issued. This is at the venue’s discretion and will be for those who need assistance from another person to move around our buildings safely.
