Leonard Design is proud to support Material Worlds – a bold exhibition coming to Lakeside Arts, University of Nottingham, that explores how contemporary artists are using textiles in surprising and radical ways.
Opening on Saturday 17 May and running until Sunday 31 August, the exhibition will feature works by several artists, including Nottingham-based artist Yelena Popova, who will exhibit Jacquard woven tapestries.
Curated by Caroline Achaintre, this Hayward Gallery Touring exhibition from the Southbank Centre, London, invites visitors to experience the everyday made extraordinary through works that challenge ideas of identity, heritage, and the body.
At the heart of the UK and with a long history in lace manufacturing, Nottingham is a fitting location for this exhibition, which focuses on current practices in textile arts and how artists are reimagining the material.
In tandem with their sponsorship, Leonard Design are collaborating with the Lakeside Arts team on a transformational redesign of some of the front-of-house spaces in Lakeside Arts’ DH Lawrence Pavilion and Djanogly Gallery buildings. The work reimagines the arrival experience, creating a clearer, more intuitive journey through the buildings while supporting a wider range of artistic, cultural, and community activities. Leonard Design are excited to play a part in shaping the future of Lakeside Arts, just as Material Worlds reshapes how we experience the materials of everyday life.
We’re proud to support Material Worlds, a powerful and thought-provoking exhibition that celebrates the creative potential of textiles in contemporary art. It’s a privilege to partner with Lakeside Arts and the University of Nottingham to bring this exhibition, originally from the Southbank Centre in London, to the City of Nottingham. Material Worlds champions work that challenges perceptions, explores identity and heritage, and inspires new ways of thinking."
